Our St. Vincent de Paul Council at St. Marguerite’s will be participating in the Atlanta SVdP 10-Ton Food event which started on MLK Day and continues through Easter.  All Food donations will be counted toward this great event, but food collected at St. Marguerite’s stays at our church for our own food pantry.  Not every parish has a food pantry on site like we do so some of the churches are pooling their donated food to the Atlanta SVdP food bank.  We are so fortunate to have great SVdP volunteers who are willing to sort and distribute all the wonderful contributions you make!If you want some ideas for things to bring check out this link:  SVdP Pantry Needs.

Our SVdP group provides more than just food for those in our community who are in need.  They also assist with utility bills and other needs of the families who come for help.  A fun way you can help raise some money will be to attend WINE TASTING SATURDAYS in Lawrenceville in February.  Every Saturday,  Niko’s Wine Corner in downtown Lawrenceville holds a wine tasting from 4-6PM and donates the $5 cost for the tastings to a local charity. For February (the month of love) they have selected our SVdP council as the recipient of these funds!  For your $5 you will taste 6 different wines.  Bring your Valentine, or just a group of friends, have some fun, and support this important ministry that reaches out beyond our walls into the community – where we show we are Christians by our love!  You can get directions to Niko’s by clicking the link above for the address.

St. Vincent de Paul will be having a special guest speaker at our next St. Vincent de Paul meeting on Tuesday, February 7th at 6:30 p.m. Jack Murphy heads the Voice of the Poor program for St. Vincent de Paul in Atlanta.  Voice of the Poor is an Advocacy group that addresses Social Injustices in our communities and country.  Some of the works address Domestic and International Relief, Right to Life, World Hunger, Services for Single Parents, Income Tax Assistance for Working Poor, Banking opportunities for working poor and the imprisoning of our immigrants. You are invited to attend this meeting to hear Mr. Murphy and learn more about this compassionate ministry.

ST. VINCENT de PAUL FOOD PANTRY:

Can you help?  We have begun to get low on many non-perishable items, especially cereal, canned vegetables (corn, green beans, carrots), rice, spaghetti sauce and personal items (such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc.) and kitchen soap (Dawn, Joy, etc.)  Please keep these items in mind when you are thinking of items you would like to contribute to this most worthy cause.  Also toiletries, such as shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, soaps, toothpaste, etc.

It seems we have had to give out a lot of food lately to those in need.  We would like to thank everyone who donates to our Food Box in the Narthex.  It is because of your generosity that we are able to help so many people during their hardships.  Thank you again for all your continued support and help.

Please consider joining our St. Vincent de Paul ministry.  All that is needed is love and compassion for our brothers and sisters in Christ.  We meet the first and third Tuesday of each month.  See the calendar in the Narthex for times.

Niko's Wine Corner has invited our St. Vincent de Paul St. Marguerite Conference to participate in their Saturday afternoon wine tasting.  Thet wine tasting event will be held each Saturday in February (the 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th) from 4p.m. to 6 p.m.

Every month Niko's donates the $5 charged for wine tasting to a charitable organization.  For $5 you will be able to sample 6 different wines and all the proceeds will go to our St. Vincent de Paul conference at St. Marguerite.  We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to meet other parishioners, bring your family and friends to this social event, and help us raise money to offer help and hope to those in our community who are struggling on a daily basis.

Please join us at Niko's Wine Corner, 178 E. Crogan Street, Downtown Lawrenceville on February 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th from 4p.m. to 6 p.m.

(You can celebrate Valentine's Day on February 11 or February 18 @ Niko's while contributing to our St. Marguerite St. Vincent de Paul Society!)
